These ancient fossils first appeared in the Cambrian period - over 520 million years ago!
So, what are they? They are extinct marine artiopodan arthropods - in layman’s terms, really cool sea bugs that managed to survive for over three million years; well outliving the dinosaurs. Trilobites had an exoskeleton which defiantly impacted their survival rate. Another fun fact is that some Trilobites had telescopic like eyes with hundreds of miniature eyes inside!
